We're about to get in trouble.
It's Denise's birthday this week, and she is going to be furious that we're telling all of you — she doesn't like the attention. So we're doing what any smart team does: blaming Yanni. It was his idea. Obviously.
Here's the thing about Denise. She's the heart and soul of this restaurant — the quiet force who keeps the whole place running and never wants a shred of credit for it. She deserves every bit of it, and would rather we didn't say so. oops.
If you see her around this week, wish her a happy birthday.
And as Yanni likes to remind everyone, the smartest decision Denise ever made was marrying him. ...Typical Yanni.

Starting Thursday: The Potato Debate Continues
The potato debate continues. Two weeks ago it was the Niçoise. This week, it's moussaka.
Here's the controversy: in Greece, traditional moussaka often starts with a bottom layer of potatoes. The Pihas family? We skip them. Our version is all silky layers of eggplant — no potato in sight — under a rich, spiced meat sauce and a blanket of creamy béchamel, baked until golden and bubbling. It's the family spin, and we'll stand by it (sorry, Yiayia).
We're pouring the Colomé Malbec from Salta, Argentina alongside it — and this one's special. Colomé is the oldest working winery in Argentina, founded in 1831, tucked high in the Calchaquí Valleys and home to one of the highest vineyards on the planet: "Altura Máxima," sitting at a dizzying 3,111 meters — over 10,000 feet up. That extreme mountain sun gives the Malbec its intensity: deep blackberry and dark fruit, floral notes, a little pepper and spice, bold tannins, and a bright lift that keeps it from ever feeling heavy. Which makes it exactly the wine to stand up to a rich, eggplant-layered moussaka. Mountain-grown power meets Greek comfort. Trust us on this one.
