Odysseus took ten years to get home
The Padres only needed one night. Down two games to none against baseball's best, they came home to Petco on Tuesday and won 4 to 3: a Cronenworth home run, six huge outs from Michael King on one day of rest, and a Bogaerts double play to end it.
Game 4 is tonight at 7. No ten-year wait required. Go Friars.
Starting Thursday: smoked salmon pasta
Tri-color rotini, garlic cream sauce, smoked salmon, tomatoes, capers and zucchini. It's here from Thursday until we run out. Pick your pour, both by the glass. ZD Chardonnay has the body to match the cream sauce. Benton Lane Pinot Noir is the Pacific Northwest's favorite partner for salmon, light enough for fish and fruity enough for the smoke.

Heads Up
Saturday, October 10. Seating is limited, all the patios are booked. We strongly recommend a reservation.
From the Road: There's another Yanni
Some trips are about wine. This one was about family. Yanni and Denise went north to Ioannina to be with their cousins, and they stopped in at a tavern Yanni has known since he was a child. It's in Koutselio, the village where his dad is from, and it's been cooking lamb and goat the slow way since 1965. Denise's chapter has the tavern, the cousins, the villages of Zagori, Lake Pamvotida and fourteen photographs.
Hope Blooms at Yanni's
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Saturday, October 17, the Scripps Ranch Hidden Valley House Auxiliary is bringing its Hope Blooms fundraiser to Yanni's, and we're honored to host. The afternoon benefits the residents and staff of the Hidden Valley House emergency shelter, operated by Center for Community Solutions, which helps survivors of relationship violence and sexual assault.
Join us from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for friends, food and prizes. And a sneak peek: Yanni will be running the paddle raise. Anyone who's watched him work a dining room knows he can get a whole room on its feet. Tickets are $95, and only a few are left. Sales close this Friday, October 9.
Can't make it? You can donate through the same site. If you or someone you know needs support, Center for Community Solutions runs a free, confidential 24/7 crisis hotline: 888-385-4657
Whatever happens at Petco tonight, the wine will be open.
